The great burning shadow
While waiting for the information on the artifacts, for which the group had hired a bard, the city came under attack from orcs. Some of the group were caught out in the open while exploring the city, while the rest came under attack in the tavern they were staying at. Those caught in the streets either managed to kill or evade their attackers and made their way back through the streets to the tavern. Those in the tavern had a large group of orcs and a couple of ogres on their hands, but they managed to down the attackers. Investigation led them into the sewer system where they tracked the trail of the attackers back to a tunnel they had made that opened up into a large sewer drain. Here they crossed the path of an Otyugh that dwelled in the sewer. the filthy creature decided to follow the party out of interest.
The tunnel led to a cavern where they found a big group of orcs hanging around while their leader talked to a man in robes. The inquisitor decide to take matters in his own hand and charged in before anyone knew what was happening. In the following fight the man in robes managed to escape.
So the group returned to the surface to see what had happened to the city, finding that most of it had been looted by the orcs, who had retreated as swiftly as they had appeared. A bit of thinking and investigating made the party wonder what the orcs had been after here, since orcs don’t dwell near this city at all. They found out that the library their bard had been investigating in had been attacked aswel, the bard killed and several documents stolen, so the attack probably hadn’t been a coincidence. They did however find out that one of the artifacts had last been seen on a ship in front of the coast of the land of the linnorm kings, so they decided to head that way.
